06.21.2026_Juneteenth_Sunday

For the fourth year we will mark Juneteenth by a special worship service at St. Peter’s the focus of the message is “The Dream of God” based on the theology and message of African American Episcopal theologian Dr. Verna Dozier, Bishop Michael Curry and Fr. Ron’s mentor.  Verna’s constant message is that God’s dream is to have a world restored as God intended it at creation and how we are called to be followers, not merely worshippers of Jesus to reconcile and restore God’s world to right relationship.  This year will be an interfaith service between the three faiths that trace their roots to the Patriarch Abraham.  Readings in Hebrew read by a member of the United Brethren Synagogue, the Holy Qur’an read in Abrahamic, and English with a beloved short passage from the Gospel according to John.  Music will feature Edith Peters and young members of the Peters family who were descendants of Cesar Peters who was enslaved by Samuel Peters, who was a reluctant slaveholder and the first rector of our parish, 1760-1774.
