Music Moves Hartford 12-13-2025
This musical group, named “Music Moves Hartford,” was formed primarily for those in our community experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The group began rehearsing in 2022 as after Cuatro Puntos was looking for more ways to fulfill their mission. “[It is] important to use music for means greater than itself,” director Kevin Bishop said. “Forming a choir helps build a sense of community, purpose.” Their current director is Marianne Vogel who was formerly music director at Gilead Congregational Church. She is now the Music Director at our Cathedral. They will lead us in song and perform some of their own pieces of music.
We too are moved that they will come to us before Christmas to sing some of their songs and lead us in a Carol sing that will lift our spirits and remind us the true meaning of Christmas of coming together in love and fellowship regardless of our station in life. The reception following the concert to provide an opportunity to meet the group and thank them for coming.
Music Moves Hartford (MMH), was formed in 2018 as a collaborative effort between
Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford and Cuatro Puntos, a non-profit organization that works
to amplify persecuted, silenced or underrepresented musicians. Marianne Vogel (formerly
music director at Gilead Congregational Church in Hebron) now coordinates MMH as part of
her role as Music Director at the Episcopal Cathedral in Hartford. She says, “Music
Moves Hartford is a true community-based choir of people from all walks of life.” The
group rehearses at Hands On Hartford, an organization helping hundreds of people receive
food, housing, and medical and behavioral health resources. Each week as many as 30-40
people gather to sing and build community. In this concert MMH will perform some of their
own pieces of music and lead a carol sing to get us into the spirit of the season. A reception
following the concert will provide an opportunity to meet the group and thank them for coming.
In addition to this concert, MMH is also performing at Hartford Stage, Center Church and
South Congregational Church in Hartford during this holiday season.
